Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, has reaffirmed the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) dedication to secularism, stressing the value of societal harmony and unity [3][5]. Pawar has also issued a warning against corruption in the party and polarising politics [3][5]. These remarks are made in the midst of concerns regarding the ideological fit between the NCP’s affiliation with the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Mahayuti coalition[1].

Secularism Commitment
Despite forming alliances with parties that hold different ideologies, Ajit Pawar has been outspoken about the NCP’s commitment to secular ideas, declaring that the party would not compromise on them [1]. He has emphasised the NCP’s commitment to social harmony and its belief in equality and togetherness [2][3][5]. “Maharashtra has long been a symbol of societal peace and progressive ideas. The NCP is a staunch supporter of secularism and unity. Pawar declared, “We will not permit anyone to engage in divisive politics or to propagate hatred”[3][5].

The NCP had previously formed a government with the Shiv Sena without being subject to the same scrutiny over secularism, according to Pawar, who has also justified his party’s alliance with the BJP[1]. To further justify his party’s choice to join the BJP, he cited the NCP’s external support for the BJP in 2014 when it helped build the Maharashtra government[1].

Pay Attention to Integrity and Transparency
Ajit Pawar has underlined the value of openness and honesty within the NCP in addition to restating the party’s dedication to secularism[3][5]. He has advised party workers to avoid admitting those with tarnished reputations and to guarantee transparency while inducting new members [3]. “Ensure transparency in your actions, and do not let corruption or divisiveness creep into our party,” he said [5].

Minority Outreach
Ajit Pawar and his wife Sunetra have been interacting with Muslims, keeping in mind the NCP’s historical base of support among them [4]. Pawar has made an effort to reassure the populace that he still supports secularism and joined the NDA in order to strategically advance development [4]. Baba Siddiqi, a former Congress MLA, was recently incorporated into the Ajit Pawar side and is now being portrayed as its Muslim spokesperson [4].

Difficulties and Contradictory Stances
Given the alleged right-leaning beliefs of its alliance partners, concerns regarding the NCP’s ideological coherence persist notwithstanding Pawar’s claims [1]. Ajit Pawar has occasionally criticised the positions of leaders from his alliance allies, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, which has sparked significant discussion [6].

All things considered, Ajit Pawar’s NCP is making an effort to manage the difficulties of its partnership with the BJP and Shiv Sena while upholding its dedication to secularism and its base of traditional support[1][4]. Concerns about corruption and polarising politics are addressed by the party’s emphasis on honesty and transparency [3][5].
