The BMC officials had inspected the site Monday without any prior warning and took the original blueprint of the property for more evaluation.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated on Tuesday that The UniContinental hotel, which has Habitat studio where Kunal Kamra performed the contentious standup comedy, lacked authorisation to conduct public events in the basement.
Shiv Sena members had damaged the site on March 23 following the broadcast on social media of a video showing Kamra mocking Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The BMC authorities had inspected the site on Monday without any prior warning and took the original blueprint of the property for more evaluation.
Our inspection revealed several property infractions. For instance, they lacked authorisation to conduct public events in the basement. We have requested a list of approvals the DP and Building Proposal (BP) departments were granted before operation. This list will be compared with the original blueprint of the structure,” an official said on Tuesday.
The Habitat studio sits on the four-storied UniContinental Hotel in Khar (West). While there is an open air theatre facilities at the terrace of the hotel as well, open mic events like stand-up comedy shows mostly occur in the basement of the structure.
The local authorities had earlier on Monday requested the hotel management to provide the BMC with a copy of all the maps and original papers in their possession. Civic officials on Tuesday stated they are still waiting for all the papers from their side.
The papers should reach us by tomorrow (Wednesday). A report will then be prepared and the management will be allowed time to respond to the infractions. Appropriate action will be taken depending on their reaction, the official said.
