The Sigachi Chemical Industry in Pashamylaram experienced a blast and fire on Monday due to a suspected reactor explosion.
As more remains were found during rescue efforts, the number of people killed in Tuesday’s explosion at a chemical facility in Telangana rose to 42.
From 12 till Monday night, the toll increased to 34 on Tuesday morning and continues to rise.
“While clearing the debris, several bodies were discovered beneath it. “The final portion of the rescue effort is still ongoing,” Paritosh Pankaj, the district superintendent of police, told the PTI news agency.
Revanth Reddy, the chief minister, is also anticipated to visit the scene of the tragedy on Tuesday morning.
Factory explosion in Telangana
The Sigachi Chemical Industry in Pashamylaram experienced a blast and fire on Monday due to a suspected reactor explosion.
State Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha told reporters that about 90 workers were present in the factory when the incident occurred.
According to the workers, “the explosion completely destroyed the industrial shed, and the blast’s force was so great that some of the workers were thrown up in the air and they fell down about 100 meters away,” he continued.
At least ten fatalities were recovered during the rescue and firefighting efforts that were conducted at the site after the explosion.
Although the exact cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, it is believed to have been brought on by a chemical reaction.
The Telangana Fire Disaster Response teams, NDRF, and HYDRAA are conducting the rescue efforts, according to local media on Tuesday.
Jishnu Dev Varma, the governor of Telangana, also conveyed his sorrow over the terrible mishap. The state governor wished the injured a quick recovery and offered condolences to the families of those killed in the disaster.
Additionally, the Governor addressed M. Dan Kishore, the Principal Secretary of the Labour, Employment Training and Factories (LETF), and instructed him to provide every assistance and support to the blast victims.
