Election Schedule: Key Dates to Remember

The Maharashtra State Election Commission has outlined a clear timeline for the municipal corporation elections across 29 cities, including Amravati. All polls will occur in a single phase, allowing coordinated campaigning and voting.

  • Filing of Nomination Papers: December 23 to December 30, 2025. Aspiring candidates must submit their nominations during this window at designated centers in Amravati.
  • Scrutiny of Nominations: December 31, 2025. Election officials will review all submissions for validity.
  • Last Date for Withdrawal of Candidature: January 2, 2026. Candidates can opt out before this deadline.
  • End of Campaigning: January 14, 2026, at 5 PM, 24 hours before polling begins.
  • Polling Date: January 15, 2026. Voting will use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at designated stations.
  • Counting of Votes: January 16, 2026. Results for Amravati and other corporations will be announced on this day.

The Model Code of Conduct is already in effect, regulating campaign activities, expenditure, and official conduct to maintain fairness.

Who Can Vote? Eligibility and Voter List Updates

Eligible voters for the Amravati Municipal Corporation elections include Indian citizens aged 18 or older residing in the municipal limits as of the qualifying date. Over three crore voters are expected statewide, with Amravati’s rolls recently revised for accuracy.

The State Election Commission extended deadlines for voter list preparation:

  • Final ward-wise voter lists published by December 15, 2025.
  • Polling station lists by December 20, 2025.
  • Station-wise voter lists by December 27, 2025.

Voters can check their names online via the Maharashtra SEC portal or at local municipal offices. Duplicate entries, marked with double stars, require a written declaration and affidavit specifying the intended polling station to prevent bogus voting.

How to Prepare as a Voter

Preparation ensures a hassle-free voting experience. Follow these steps well in advance:

  1. Verify Enrollment: Visit mahasec.maharashtra.gov.in or contact Amravati Municipal Corporation offices to confirm details like polling station and serial number.
  2. Required Documents: Carry a voter ID card (EPIC), Aadhaar, passport, or other government-issued photo ID. For duplicates, bring the declaration form.
  3. Locate Your Polling Station: Lists will be available post-December 20. Stations are typically schools or community halls in each ward.
  4. Understand EVM Voting: Practice on sample EVMs if available at municipal centers. Press the candidate’s symbol after verification by polling staff.
  5. Plan Your Vote: Polling hours are usually 7 AM to 6 PM. Avoid peak hours to minimize queues.

New voters or those shifting residences should apply for corrections immediately, as deadlines approach quickly.

Polling Day: What to Expect

On January 15, 2026, Amravati’s polling stations will buzz with activity. Expect security checks, indelible ink marking, and EVM usage for transparency. No phones or campaigning materials allowed inside. Persons with disabilities get priority and assistance.

Post-voting, VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) slips confirm choices. Any issues? Report to polling officers or the SEC helpline.

Significance of Amravati Municipal Elections

Amravati Municipal Corporation oversees urban services like water supply, roads, sanitation, and waste management for its residents. Electing corporators—part of the 2,869 statewide—shapes local development priorities. Past terms ended, prompting these polls before the Supreme Court-mandated January 31, 2026, deadline.

Voter turnout remains key. Recent Maharashtra local body polls on December 2 saw high participation despite challenges, setting expectations for 2026.

Candidate and Party Dynamics

Nominations open soon, with major parties like BJP, Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress likely fielding candidates across Amravati’s wards. Focus issues include infrastructure, housing, and pollution control in this industrial hub. Track announcements via local news or municipal notices.

Post-Election: Results and Next Steps

Counting on January 16 will determine winners, leading to mayor and standing committee elections. Elected corporators form the corporation for five years, accountable to voters.

Stay informed through official channels. Your vote influences Amravati’s future—participate responsibly.
