Voter lists have been finalized ward-wise by December 15, 2025, with polling station lists published by December 20 and station-wise voter lists by December 27. The Model Code of Conduct is already in effect across Chandrapur.

Who Can Vote? Voter Eligibility and Verification

To participate in the Chandrapur Municipal Elections, voters must be Indian citizens aged 18 or older as of January 1, 2026, ordinary residents of the municipal corporation, and registered in the electoral roll. Names appearing multiple times in the rolls will have a double-star mark; such voters must submit a written declaration and affidavit specifying their polling station to prevent duplicate voting.

Check your voter status on the Maharashtra State Election Commission website (mahasec.maharashtra.gov.in) using your EPIC number or other details. Final voter lists are available ward-wise. If your name is missing, contact your local municipal ward office immediately for corrections, as deadlines have passed but special provisions may apply.

How to Vote: Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Locate Your Polling Station: Download the list from the SEC portal or visit your ward office post-December 20.
  2. Required Documents: Carry your Voter ID (EPIC), or alternatives like Aadhaar, passport, driving license, or ration card with photo.
  3. On Polling Day: Arrive early. Queue separately for men and women if applicable. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will verify identity.
  4. Casting Vote: Use the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) or VVPAT. Select your candidate’s symbol. Verify via VVPAT slip.
  5. Special Voters: Senior citizens (80+), disabled persons, or those under preventive detention can opt for postal ballots.

Polling stations will have facilities like ramps, shade, and drinking water. Report any discrepancies to the returning officer.

Candidates and Nomination Process

Around 2,869 corporators will be elected statewide, with Chandrapur’s wards electing representatives for local governance. Aspiring candidates file nominations between December 23 and 30 at designated centers. Nominations undergo scrutiny on December 31, allowing withdrawals until January 2. Symbols are allotted on January 3. Follow campaign rules under the Model Code of Conduct, prohibiting inducements or hate speech.

Track candidates via SEC notifications or local newspapers. Chandrapur’s elections follow Supreme Court directives on reservations, potentially exceeding 50% in some categories.

Post-Election: Results and Next Steps

Counting begins January 16 at designated centers. Results declare elected corporators, forming the new municipal body. For Chandrapur and Nagpur, outcomes remain provisional pending court rulings. Elected officials address civic issues like water supply, roads, and waste management.
