Election Schedule Overview

The Maharashtra State Election Commission has set a unified timeline for elections across 29 municipal corporations, including Akola. Polling will occur in a single phase on January 15, 2026, with vote counting on January 16, 2026. The Model Code of Conduct is already in effect, regulating campaign activities and official conduct.

Key Dates for Candidates and Voters

  • December 23 to 30, 2025: Filing of nomination papers by candidates.
  • December 31, 2025: Scrutiny of nominations.
  • January 2, 2026: Last date for withdrawal of candidature.
  • January 14, 2026: Campaigning ends 24 hours before polling.
  • January 15, 2026: Polling day using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
  • January 16, 2026: Results declaration.

Voter lists have been finalized recently, with ward-wise lists published by December 15, 2025, and polling station lists by December 20, 2025. Over three crore voters statewide, including those in Akola, are expected to participate.

  • Be an Indian citizen.
  • Be at least 18 years old on January 15, 2026.
  • Be a resident of Akola city and enrolled in the municipal electoral roll for the relevant ward.
  • Not be disqualified under any law, such as being declared of unsound mind or convicted of certain offenses.

Special attention is given to voters listed multiple times in electoral rolls. These individuals, marked with a double-star, must submit a written declaration and affidavit specifying their polling station to prevent duplicate voting.

How to Check and Update Your Voter Information

Verify your voter status promptly, as lists are now final. Visit the official Maharashtra State Election Commission website or local municipal office to:

  1. Search for your name using your EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) number, mobile number, or personal details.
  2. Download the ward-wise voter list for your area.
  3. Confirm your polling station from the list published by December 20, 2025.

If discrepancies exist, contact the Akola Municipal Corporation booth-level officer immediately. Forms for corrections were available until mid-December 2025, but urgent queries can still be directed to the commission’s helpdesk.

Polling Day Essentials: What to Expect

On January 15, 2026, polls will open from 7 AM to 6 PM, subject to local announcements. Voters should carry their Voter ID card or alternative documents like Aadhaar, passport, or driving license for identification.

Key guidelines include:

  • Use only EVMs; no paper ballots.
  • Follow queue discipline and COVID-19 protocols if applicable.
  • Report issues like bogus voting to polling officials or the toll-free helpline.

A total of 2,869 corporators will be elected across all 29 corporations, with Akola contributing its share based on ward demarcations. The elections must conclude before January 31, 2026, per Supreme Court directives.

Role of Akola Municipal Corporation

Akola Municipal Corporation governs essential services like water supply, sanitation, roads, and public health for over 500,000 residents. These polls will elect corporators who influence local development budgets and policies. Past elections have seen competition among major parties, focusing on infrastructure and urban challenges.
