After the AAP announced its incumbent Rajya Sabha MP as a contender for the Ludhiana West by-election, the rumours that Arvind Kejriwal would be joining the Rajya Sabha grew more intense.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has denied rumours that its leader, Arvind Kejriwal, would represent Punjab as a Rajya Sabha MP, according to news agency PTI.

The AAP national convenor would not be elected as a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, the party announced, adding that he has a “big responsibility” for the party’s pan-India growth.

Somnath Bharti, a senior party leader, informed PTI that Arvind Kejriwal would not be attending the Rajya Sabha since he is focusing on the party’s national growth.

Sanjeev Arora, the current Punjabi Rajya Sabha MP, was announced by the AAP as its candidate for the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election, which heightened the rumours that Arvind Kejriwal would be joining the Rajya Sabha.

Since 2022, industrialist Sanjeev Arora of Ludhiana has served in the Rajya Sabha. The Ludhiana West seat became empty after AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi passed away this month, hence he was chosen to run in the bypoll.

AAP main spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar refuted reports on Wednesday that Arvind Kejriwal would be joining the Rajya Sabha as a Punjab MP.

Sanjeev Arora was fielded from Ludhiana West because, according to Kakkar, he is the most qualified candidate for the seat.

According to her, the reports that Kejriwal will go from Punjab to the Rajya Sabha are entirely false.

Regarding Arvind Kejriwal, it was previously reported by media outlets that he would be appointed Punjab’s chief minister; nevertheless, it is now being stated that he will represent Punjab in the Rajya Sabha. Kakkar told PTI, “These two media outlets are completely incorrect.

Amit Malviya, the chairman of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) IT cell, had questioned earlier today if Sanjeev Arora’s bid was meant to “open the door for Arvind Kejriwal, who recently lost his own seat in New Delhi, to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab.”

“Instead of Kejriwal representing the state, wouldn’t it be preferable if someone from Punjab did so?” On X, Amit Malviya posted a question.

In the most recent assembly elections, BJP candidate Parvesh Verma beat former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who served three terms in office.
