For the impending assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen to keep the status quo in place regarding its leadership in Maharashtra. The choice was made during a meeting of the Maharashtra BJP core group that included Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda.
The Mahayuti alliance, which consists of the Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP, is preparing to win the assembly elections according to a plan being developed by the BJP[1][2][3]. Piyush Goyal, a union minister, declared, “There will be no change. In Maharashtra, we must install a robust Mahayuti-NDA government.”[1]
The meeting was attended by senior BJP leaders including BL Santosh, Bhupender Yadav, Ashwini Vaishnaw, state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Chandrakant Patil, Pankaja Munde, Raosaheb Danve and Vinod Tawde.
Present was Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, who had announced his intention to leave the government and concentrate on building the party’s infrastructure. According to Fadnavis, there was a mere 0.3 percent gap in the 2024 general elections between the Mahayuti, the ruling party, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the opposition.
“The difference between Mahayuti and MVA is just 0.3 per cent so we discussed in detail where we lost votes, where we faced problems, and the corrective actions that need to be taken,” Fadnavis stated [1].
In September, the BJP intends to begin a massive outreach program called Janadesh Yatra in Maharashtra in an effort to rebuild voter confidence ahead of the assembly elections. On July 14, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to speak at a significant 4,500-delegate BJP meeting in Pune.
The Mahayuti alliance won only 17 of Maharashtra’s 48 Lok Sabha seats, while the MVA won 30. The BJP wants to make up for these losses from the general election. Together with its allies, the BJP is optimistic about winning the assembly elections through a collective leadership strategy.
