Five Mahayuti candidates were elected unopposed to the Legislative Council on Tuesday since the opposition did not submit any candidates.
On Friday, five Mahayuti leaders swore oaths as Members of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
Six applicants had sought for the by-election for five Legislative Council seats set for March 27. The application was turned down, nevertheless, since the independent candidate lacked a notary and a letter of support from the MLAs.
Friday’s Legislative Council oath-taking included Sandeep Joshi, Sanjay Kenekar and Dadarao Keche of the BJP, Shiv Sena’s Chandrakant Raghuvanshi and Sanjay Khodke of the NCP.

After many sitting members of the Legislative Council won the Maharashtra Assembly elections last year, five Legislative Council seats overall had become empty. The leaving members of the council were Sena’s Amasha Padavi, NCP’s Rajesh Witekar, BJP’s Pravin Datke, Gopichand Padalkar, and Ramesh Karad.
