In a tragic event when humanity failed, an old grandmother was supposedly abandoned by her grandson to perish in a pile of trash.
A weak old woman suffering from cancer was left alone in Goregaon’s Aarey Colony early on Saturday morning in a very startling occurrence. An old woman had been abandoned to perish in a pile of trash, according to a troubling tip that was sent to the police.
In a horrifying case of alleged elder neglect, a frail woman in her 60s-70s, battling advanced skin cancer, was found abandoned amidst rotting garbage in Aarey Colony around 8:30 am on Saturday.

— Mid Day (@mid_day) June 23, 2025As soon as the police control centre received the tip, officers hurried to the scene and found a weak woman, who looked to be in her late 60s or early 70s, lying pathetically in a pink nightgown among plastic and rotting debris. She had a festering wound on her face, which was probably advanced skin cancer, and her nose and cheeks were clearly infected.
She was taken by the police to several hospitals, including Jogeshwari Trauma Care and Cooper Hospital, but both first turned her away due to a lack of facilities. But around 5:30 p.m., Cooper Hospital eventually admitted her after nearly eight hours of police pressure.
She introduced herself as Yashoda Gaikwad, a resident of Malad, and said in a weak voice that she was supposedly taken to Aarey by her own grandson, who then abandoned her there.
The police went to her homes in Malad and Kandivli in the hopes of tracking down her relatives, but nobody was able to confirm her identification. Additionally, Mumbai Police are looking through local CCTV video and have sent her pictures throughout stations. However, the enquiry is still ongoing and they have not yet received any leads.
