Sena Minister Heckled During MNS’s Marathi Pride Rally in Mira-Bhayandar as Political Tensions Soar

Sena Minister heckled at MNS’s “Marathi pride” rally
Raj Thackeray’s group stages a counter-rally against traders’ protests about a shop owner being slapped, with Sena (UBT) workers joining in.
As workers from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena (UBT) marched on Tuesday in favour of Marathi “asmita” (pride), tensions remained high in Mira-Bhayandar town in Maharashtra’s Thane district. The gathering was arranged in response to a traders’ demonstration on Saturday against MNS employees slapping a candy store owner for not speaking Marathi.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Home Department were blamed by opposition parties for escalating the conflict by “denying the democratic right to hold a rally.” Mr. Fadnavis, however, denied the allegation that authorisation was denied. In addition to saying that authorisation to hold a gathering late Monday night was granted, he said, “The party [MNS] was asked to take a different route.”
NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule and opposition leaders Aaditya Thackeray of the Sena (UBT) condemned the government’s response to the crisis. “The chaos is entirely the fault of the Chief Minister and the Home Department,” Ms. Sule stated.
According to DCP Gaikwad, an alternate route was proposed because the MNS demonstration was supposed to pass through the Balaji Hotel neighbourhood of Mira-Bhayandar, where the slapping incident had occurred. Despite the strong police presence, the party marched from the Balaji Hotel while chanting “M for Marathi, M for Mumbai, M for Mira-Bhayandar, and M for Maharashtra.” Around 2:30 p.m., it came to an end at the Mira Road train station.
Minister Pratap Sarnaik of the Shiv Sena, which is led by Eknath Shinde, attended to the demonstration but was yelled at as a “traitor” and ejected.
In the midst of the ongoing language dispute in Maharashtra and attacks on non-Marathi-speaking individuals, Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday attacked CM Fadnavis and Mr. Shinde, questioning their “silence” regarding BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s covert threat to MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. The CM called the remarks made by his party MP “inappropriate.”
