Earlier on Monday, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said PM Modi will retire at 75 according to the BJP’s custom. In September of this year, Narendra Modi will turn 75.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Monday rejected rumours that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would retire at 75 and that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) would choose his successor from Maharashtra, saying he would continue to lead the nation for many more years.

His remarks were in reaction to Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s assertion earlier in the day that the RSS is about to choose a successor for PM Modi. Raut further implied that Modi went to the RSS office in Nagpur on Sunday to tell Sangh leader Mohan Bhagwat he was quitting.

His successor need not be sought. Modi is our leader and will keep running the nation. We still envision him as Prime Minister in 2029 as well. The entire nation does as well. Therefore, it would be improper to bring it up… Fadnavis said to journalists in Nagpur.

Fadnavis went on to say, dismissing rumours that Modi’s successor will probably be from Maharashtra, “In our Indian tradition, it is unacceptable to talk about succession when the parent is living. That is Mughal heritage. It is not yet time to talk about it.

Senior RSS leader Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi, who was also in Nagpur, claimed he was unaware of any conversation about a “replacement”.

Raut, speaking to the media in Mumbai, said PM Modi would retire at 75 according to BJP custom. This year in September, the PM will turn 75. The Sena (UBT) chief claimed Modi never went to the RSS headquarters in the last eleven years but he went on Sunday to tell them he was resigning. Raut said they also talked about his replacement.

Right now, it appears the RSS will choose (the successor), so Modi was summoned… The Sangh’s talks happen behind closed doors and most likely do not surface. There are still some signs, and they are obvious. The Sangh will choose the next leader; he will most likely be from Maharashtra, Raut stated

The whole Sangh Parivar and Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat desire a shift in the leadership of the nation. Modi’s term is finished. The RSS now wishes to be present in the nation. It also wishes to influence the selection of the BJP national president. Modi thus visited the RSS headquarters to see off and declare his departure, the Sena (UBT) leader said.

Raut also mocked PM Modi for his remark that the RSS participated in India’s fight for independence. He stated, “The RSS was absent in the Indian liberation fight. Its contribution was what? Narendra Modi should have a briefing from us on this. What did the RSS accomplish to free slavery’s chains?

This nation was enslaved by the shackles of slavery for one hundred fifty years. From Mahatma Gandhi to Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel, Savarkar, this fight occurred under the direction of all of them and the chains of slavery were shattered.

The MP said that the attitude of the people will not change unless the effort to present a false past stops. You (BJP) are turning people into crazy blind followers. So, this country can be among the insane ones.
