Nitin Gadkari, minister of union road transport, also stated the Mumbai-Goa highway would be finished by June.
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari Monday claimed the long-delayed Mumbai-Goa highway will be finished by June after missing many prior dates. He also asserted that in the next two years, “India’s road infrastructure will be better than that of the United States” and indicated a new toll policy will be revealed shortly.

Gadkari, addressing the Vasant Vyakhyanmala in central Mumbai’s Dadar, remarked, “The Mumbai-Goa highway presented several challenges. Rest assured, though, we will finish the road 100 percent by this June. He claimed the national highway should shorten the distance between Mumbai and Goa and greatly help the Konkan area growth.

There have been many deadlines for the Mumbai-Goa highway project. Gadkari aimed to finish the project by December 2023 in March 2023; he fell short. Locals, politicians, and many groups have long decried unfinished work, which has been a problem for more than ten years. Promises from successive governments notwithstanding, the project stayed uncompleted.

Gadkari mentioned court battles and family property ownership conflicts as the main causes of the project’s land acquisition delay. Brothers fought, court proceedings were held, and never-ending land compensation issues arose.

Gadkari admitted that among the black spots of his ministry are the Delhi Jaipur and Mumbai-Goa highways. Talking about Konkan, three acres of land have 13 to 14 proprietors. Disagreements, legal actions… But they have been settled and the Mumbai-Goa highway work has picked up pace, he said.

Gadkari underlined his ministry’s efforts in Jammu and Kashmir and the continuing highway work for the Delhi-Mumbai and Surat-Chennai lines as he spoke about his ambitious ambitions.

The Delhi-Mumbai highway will take you to Surat; from there, a new road is being built all the way to Chennai. In Maharashtra, it will go from Surat to Nasik, Ahmadnagar, Solapur and further south. One does not have to visit Mumbai or Pune to travel to the south. “The dream of travelling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari (via national highways) will be finished in the next year,” he added, noting that his ministry has been constructing 57 express routes around the nation at a cost of Rs 10 lakh crore.

Gadkari underlined once more that the Centre will create a new toll policy and that physical toll booths will be gone very shortly.

Soon, the Central government will unveil a new toll policy. I won’t say much about it now, but a new policy will be revealed in 15 days. Once put into effect, tolls will give no cause for anyone to grumble.
