against Tuesday, Mumbai police sent comedian Kunal Kamra third summons linked to the FIR filed over his comments against Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Kamra, who has previously obtained a temporary anticipatory bail in the matter until April 7 from Madras High Court, was slated to participate in the investigation early this week.
Police sources stated the Khar police issued third summons to him requesting his participation in the investigation by April 5 since he failed to appear.
Sources, however, said the Khar police had notified certain audience members present in Kamra’s February 2 stand-up performance at the Habitat studio in Khar where he made comments against Shinde. The notice requested witness statement recording at police station.
Senior police officials were silent on the subject.
Kamra has four FIRs against him for comments made at a standup performance called “Naya Bharat” against Shinde.
Police gave him two summons in the first instance; Kamra has not shown up before them. While other cases were filed at various Maharashtra districts and subsequently moved to the Khar police station as the stand-up performance was conducted at Habitat studio in Khar, the initial case was lodged on a complaint by Shinde Sena MLA Murji Patel.
Sena employees had destroyed the studio on March 23 after a video recording of the event went online. The police took 12 Sena workers into custody after this; they were subsequently freed on bail.
