Girish Mahajan departs for Srinagar to organise initiatives to return stuck visitors; Eknath Shinde also departs for Kashmir in leased plane

On Wednesday, the Maharashtra government declared Rs 5 lakh financial aid to the six families who lost loved ones in the Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir terrorist attack. It also declared Rs 50,000 help each for the wounded.

Evening Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde also departed for Srinagar in a chartered plane by evening, even as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tasked minister Girish Mahajan to go to J&K in the morning to guarantee a smooth return of the trapped tourists back home.

Fadnavis denounced the assault and stated that both national and state governments are enacting severe policies to control such shameful deeds. He also promised every conceivable assistance to the relatives of the injured and the victims.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the CMO reported that Girish Mahajan, Minister of Water Resources and Disaster Management, had been sent to Srinagar to oversee initiatives aimed at returning visitors to the state. To organise plans to collect the dead remains of the victims, BJP ministers Ashish Shelar and Mangal Prabhat Lodha were based at the Mumbai airport. Pune airport was manned by Minister of State Madhuri Misal.

Shinde thereafter departed for Srinagar to oversee the tourist rescue operation. On Tuesday night, he too dispatched a team of MLAs and party leaders to Srinagar to return visitors from Maharashtra. While Prakash Abitkar was instructed to be in Pune, Sena ministers Gulabrao Patil, Dadaji Bhuse, and Yogesh Kadam were told to go to Mumbai airport.

A chat on the situation was had by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar with J&K CM Omar Abdullah. Pawar said the number of aircraft would rise to return trapped visitors. He also got in touch with Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State for civil aviation, to plan exceptional flights. The state government has asked people to stay calm and not panic. Their relatives are always being kept informed, he said.

A special flight the Maharashtra government has organised would return Maharashtra visitors in Kashmir to Mumbai. On Thursday, the Indigo plane would return 83 visitors to Mumbai. The state government will pay.

Informed Disaster Management Director Satishkumar Khadke, the state government has meanwhile designated two personnel at the State Emergency Operations Centre to help impacted tourists from Maharashtra.Visheshkar Suryawanshi, manager of the State Emergency Operations Centre, and Nitin Masale, Control Room Officer, have been named to the Ministry Control Room.
