Among the 26 dead in the Pahalgam terror assault on Tuesday, six tourists from Maharashtra were included.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday that the terror incident at Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives would not go unpunished; Prime Minister Narendra Modi would pursue the mastermind and “retaliate with severe measures”.
Fadnavis spoke to the press in Mumbai, outlining the state government’s strategy to return all stranded Jammu and Kashmir tourists following the incident. “We are constantly watching the J-K government developments.”
Among the 26 dead in Pahalgam on Tuesday, six were from Maharashtra. Fadnavis stated that each of their families would receive Rs 5 lakh in compensation. The government, he said, will also retrieve the wounded visitors with their physicians’ permission.
Before shooting people down, “the terrorists” inquired about their names and faith. It is a savage deed deserving of severe criticism. Such a horrible act of terrorism will not go unpunished. At the right moment, Modi will respond fittingly.
Earlier, in a social media post on X, Fadnavis stated that state Cabinet minister Girish Mahajan has headed for Srinagar to work with local authorities there. He further disclosed the intentions to transport the six victims’ lifeless remains to Maharashtra and stated that measures are being made to return stranded Jammu and Kashmir visitors.
Fadnavis stated that senior Cabinet ministers Mangal Prabhat Lodha and Ashish Shelar of the Maharashtra government have been given responsibility to manage activities at the Mumbai airport. He stated in the tweet that Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal would supervise coordination at the Pune airport.
